Some Saskatoon locals have learnt the hard way that there is no honour among thieves when they tried to buy stolen, knocked down priced, plasma TV’s.
Police from Saskatoon warned the public on Wednesday about the scam which involves a man phoning random people to offer them stolen plasma screened TV sets for hundreds of dollars below the recommended retail price. The man would then arrange to meet any potential buyers at a given location. He would request the money upfront for the plasma screens and leave. That would be the last the buyers would see of the man and their money. None of the buyers received their TV sets.
The police added that the swindler has also been frequenting bars and pubs in the Saskatoon area offering people the same type of offer.
Police also took the time to warn people that purchasing any stolen property is a criminal offence.
